To former papermill called Tollare (f.d. Tollare pappersbruk) was closed down in 1964 following several years of economic downfalls. When it once back in 1922 was established in district Boo (today Nacka) by Johan Alfred Hedenström and his son Daniel Hedenström, it was a bashful activity but it soon developed into a greater forms with journal paper manufacturing as its main concern.
When the factory was closed down, the buildings has been used by small companies and as boatyards. Since in 2007 claiming that Tollare is one of the most contaminated localities in Stockholm, investigations (the construction company NCC has the idea of putting a cloth on the bottom of the sea to contain the mercury that had polluted Lännerstasundet/Lännersta strait has been put into action in order to tear down the astonishing buildings to create a new housing area among all the fancy bungalows. It is planned to start with the building in 2009 and finish it up in 2017.
On a sign in the first crossroad after entering the area through the gates, several company names can be read from, all of them faded. KW Karlberg AB, Aroma Kaffe (the concrete building still has a giant sign with this firm of coffee-roasters and an worn out truck is parked out front marked with its logotype), Tollare Varf (Tollare shipyard), Cord Yacht AB and Avesta. A smaller building next to the main one has a sign that reads "Larssons Svets & Blästring" (Larsson's Welding & Blasting) and it appears that the brewery Åbro used to have some sort of activity in the area.
Great place, but
highly vandalized which, as always, is a shame.
